Mr Gray, do you have even the slightest idea what it's like to be a police officer these days? This wasn't an issue of race, this was an officer doing his job, responding to a possible burglary. On finding evidence of possible forced entry the officer entered to check out the house, I hope with his weapon drawn, and found an unknown person. I'm not sure what comments were made by whom, I wasn't there, but if it was an inflamed homeowner - too bad. The officer was obligated to establish the identity of the individual! Because you can bet that if he'd taken someones word for who they claimed to be, only to have that person be a burglar, the cry of police ineptitude would have been just as loud. And honestly, if Mr. Gates had just been another regular guy and not a prominent scholar and an acquaintance of the President, would this discussion even be taking place? The President needs to keep his nose and opinions out of local issues. He is treading dangerously close to Orwell's "Big Brother", now that is something we definitely cannot tolerate.
